Oregon Grape
An open, suckering, shrub with pinnate, bright green leaves to 12 inches long with up to 9 obliquely ovate, spiny-toothed leaflets, often turning purple in the winter.
Dense, bushy plant that grows to 6 ft tall and 5 ft wide. Early spring yellow flowers appear in 2-3 inch clusters along the stems that produce blue-black edible fruit that makes good jelly. It is native from British Columbia to Northern California, mostly west of the Cascades. State flower of Oregon.
