Bald Cypress

Genus of 2 species of upright, conical, monoecious, deciduous or semi-evergreen coniferous trees found in swampy forest or by river margins from S.E. US to Guatemala.

This is a deciduous, narrowleaf, perennial tree. It has rapid growth to 100ft. tall and 30ft. wide. Likes sun and is half hardy to 20 degrees. Relatively pest and disease free.

Feathery, delicate foliage sprays with narrow, 1/2in. long leaves in a pale, delicate, yellow-tinged green. Foliage turns orange-toned brown before dropping. Takes any except strongly alkaline soils. Tolerates extremely wet conditions but also takes rather dry soil. When growing in waterlogged soil, it develops knobby growths called knees.

USDA Zones 5-1.0

Sunset Zones 2-10, 12-24.
