Acer rubrum (AYE-ser RUE-brum) Red Maple A deciduous, broadleaf, perennial tree. Native to low, wet areas of Eastern North America. Has red twigs, branchlets, and buds; quite showy flowers. Dull red fruit. Leaves 2-4in. long, with three to five lobes, shiny green above, pale beneath; brilliant scarlet fall color in frosty areas. Doesn't like urban pollution. USDA Zones 3-9.
